What to expect in your first session:
Beginning therapy can evoke feelings of anxiety and discomfort. To allay any initial fears or uncertainty, I’d like to go over what to expect in the first session.
Our first session will focus on information gathering. We will go over the business end of thing such as, policies, protocols and scheduling. Then we will go over your desire for therapy, background information and your goals for therapy. You can ask any questions about the way I approach therapy. About Amanda Pitchko, LPC, NCC
Clinical and Counseling Background:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Pennsylvania, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. After receiving my undergraduate degree in Psychology, cum laude, at Albright College, I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rider University, graduating with departmental honors. While in graduate school, I co-authored a research article entitled, “Naturalistic Recovery from Non-Suicidal Self Injury: A Phenomenological Inquiry,” which was published in the Journal of Counseling & Development. I have worked in both individual and group settings, serving women with eating disorders and other co-morbid mental illnesses, such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). My practice has expanded to include therapies for couples and families as well as for individuals with an array of disorders and issues. In previous employment, I was designated a “preferred provider.” My training includes certification in Emotional Freedom Technique and Tapping (EFT), completion of Intensive Trauma Treatment courses and ongoing certification in Complex Trauma.
Philosophy:
Passionate about helping people to heal from past life experiences, I aim to assist you in breaking unhealthy patterns of thinking and coping, thus supporting your journey to emotional, mental and physical well-being. I believe that building a better understanding of the self and creating a personal narrative through the lens of compassion, non judgment, will help you manage and maneuver the difficulties of life. I believe each person is unique and valuable. I am an advocate of Health At Every Size (HAES) and the LGBTQIA+ community. Also, continuing education is important to me in order to improve and evaluate my own knowledge and skills.
Therapeutic Approach:
Although my main approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and focusing on the mind/body connection, I allow space to be creative in sessions, adapting to the needs of clients. Therapy is about you, your needs and goals. Therapy is about creating a safe environment to grasp a deeper understanding of the self.
